Organizers for the Special Olympics asked the Box Elder County Commission to waive the facility fee for a meet-and-greet scheduled the evening of July 23. Kayla Bingham, who identified herself as the delegation head for the local Special Olympics effort, described a multi-year effort to rebuild the program and increase participation; she said the county has roughly 1,600 eligible children in the 3-to-21 age group and typically sees 20–30 participants at regular events.
Commissioners approved a one-time fee waiver for use of the Fine Arts Building for that evening. Commissioners also noted the county is updating fee rules and that future requests may be subject to a standard charge to cover staff costs; organizers said they will provide liability insurance once approval is confirmed.
