MIDA projects millions in annual revenue and thousands of jobs; commissioners seek enforceable commitments

"With the Energy And Compute campus alone, the developer has committed to phase 1 3 gigawatts of power, which would turn, in turn provide the county with $30,000,000 annually, of revenue," Venable said. She also said the developer agreed to prepayments of $5,400,000 per year for three years to help the county gear up for infrastructure and life‑safety needs so services can be provided before full tax revenues arrive.
Commissioners asked what guarantees would hold the developer to job and revenue promises and how school districts and other taxing entities would be affected. MIDA said municipal taxes would distribute increments to taxing entities and that the county would have discretionary use of revenues after municipal services are covered. Commissioners pressed for formal reporting, enforcement language in the interlocal agreement and study documents to validate job and revenue estimates.
