The Montrose Fire Department presented its April activity report and 2024 annual report at the May 12 council meeting. The department reported "35 total calls for the month," noting increases compared with the prior year.
The department requested permission to update portable, mobile and base station radios (estimated around $10,000) and to purchase a new trailer for its side-by-side vehicle; the Fire Relief Association has committed to donate the funds for the trailer. Council voted 5-0 to accept the 2024 annual report, to approve moving forward with the radios update and to accept the trailer purchase and subsequent donation resolution when it is brought forward.
The department said the trailer purchase will be followed by a formal resolution accepting the donation; staff also described plans to solicit bids or consider internal sale of the current trailer once the new unit is in service.
