Board approves summer facility projects and adds Vasquez parking‑lot median removal

A trustee and a public attendee raised safety concerns about raised planters/medians in the Vasquez upper parking lot that have caused vehicle damage. The board debated whether to refer the medians back to the facilities subcommittee or to amend the summer projects to include removal; the board approved an amendment to add median removal (the presenter estimated the four planters would cost on the order of hundreds to a low thousands of dollars to remove) and then approved the full summer projects package by voice vote. Trustees asked that the facilities subcommittee review any change orders and that staff present quotes at the subcommittee meeting scheduled for June 30.
Separately, the board approved High Desert and Little Owls projects (concrete, flooring, playground safety surfacing) funded by remaining prior‑year balances (presentation listed $191,665 for that subset). Several trustees emphasized the need for impact testing of playground surfacing to ensure long‑term safety.
