Students and board members call for deep dive into Suite360 advisory lessons, cite low engagement

Autumn, speaking as the Vasquez High student representative, told the subcommittee that the Suite360 advisory lessons are "very juvenile and... not relevant to our teens," and said many students view the lessons as the most-dreaded part of the week. She argued that SEL is learned through relationships and real interactions and urged more peer-led and teacher-facilitated discussions instead of video-driven modules.
District staff and board members responded that Suite360 was adopted after site pilots and was attached to the PBIS framework; Director of Ed Services (S3) said the program did not "happen in a vacuum" and described collaborative choices at the site level. Several board members asked to observe lessons, review vendor materials and procurement history, and to compare Vasquez implementation with other sites before proposing changes. Staff agreed to bring site staff (including counselors and the teacher who piloted the program) to a future session and to prepare survey instruments for students and parents.
