Comal County to seek disannexation of 3 acres in New Braunfels for Altgeld Lane realignment

County staff told the court Oct. 17 that the county recently closed on property needed for right-of-way as part of the Altgeld Lane realignment and will ask the City of New Braunfels to disannex roughly three acres so that the realigned segment will be in unincorporated Comal County.
A county staff member said, "We have been working on this Altgeld project for several months now. In fact, last week, we just released the bid. We also closed on the land that we purchased for additional right of way. That land is in the City of New Braunfels, and so we're submitting a request to the city of New Braunfels to disannex this portion of 3 acres, so it'd be outside the city limits and in the county, county jurisdiction." The court approved the staff recommendation, authorized the county engineer to sign the request, and waived fees as noted on the agenda.
The staff discussion clarified that the current alignment of Altgeld Lane is in unincorporated Comal County, but the realigned portion would cross into city limits without the disannexation, prompting the request to the city to avoid future maintenance and jurisdictional confusion.
