Hilda Statz, director of the Holistic Recovery Alliance, urged the Comal County Commissioners Court to support funding for a women’s shelter that would provide emergency housing, counseling, legal support and job training. "This shelter will serve as a safe haven for human women who are escaping situations of domestic violence, homelessness and other challenging circumstances," she said directly to the court.
Statz described the shelter as more than temporary housing: "It will be a sanctuary, a place where they can find safety, access supportive resources and rebuild their lives with dignity." She told commissioners that current resources are stretched thin and asked the court to consider investing in construction and operational costs to meet urgent community need.
