The Greer Fiber Arts Collective is hosting an exhibition of work by 13 local artists at the Edward R. Drigger City of Greer Center for the Arts, and the group holds a free monthly meeting on the second Wednesday at 10 a.m., the presenter said.
"This is the Greer Fiber Arts Collective," the presenter said, explaining the gatherings are open to anyone interested in fiber arts. The presenter said the exhibition "will be up for the next 2 months" and features a wide range of pieces.
The presenter described meeting activities as free demonstrations and an open-format room where attendees can "just show up and sit in the class and ask questions and mingle with other artists that enjoy working in fiber." The collective covers multiple techniques, the presenter said: "It can be anything from weaving to quilting to tapestry to collage." The presenter noted the tactile nature of fiber work, calling it "very different, has a different touch in hand and feel."
Exhibition work includes photographic collage printed on fabric, paper-and-fabric collages, weaving, tapestries — the first time the collective said it has shown tapestries — and three-dimensional pieces such as dolls. "So we have 13 local artists participating in this exhibition, and it'll be up for the next 2 months," the presenter said.
The presenter also said the gallery has extended its hours beyond the former Tuesday-and-Saturday schedule and that current hours are "posted on the website." The speaker did not provide a calendar date for the next meeting or a direct website address.
