Alternative-education director highlights outcomes, seeks board support for program stability

Dr. Worrell, director of the district's alternative-education program Right Choices, briefed the board Aug. 13 on program outcomes and staffing.
He introduced Dr. Renee Jenkins as newly appointed assistant director and summarized key program metrics: services provided to 135 students during school year 22–23, one physical altercation over that population, 31 students returned to their home schools during the year, and only eight students returned to Right Choices. "These are our students. They belong to us, and they deserve the very best that we have to offer them," he told the board as he urged support for reframing alternative education.
Board members complimented the program and said they would visit Right Choices for a deeper look. Colonel Guyer and others stressed the need for stability in leadership and consistent standards to track long-term outcomes.
