Sharonica Gavin reported on the Home Safety and Repair program restructure and the program’s caseload: "To date, we have received about 140 applications... A 105 completed applications have been received. We have 38 that have been completed. We have 4 that are currently permitted jobs that are under contract. And then we have 63 that are currently awaiting town visits," Gavin said.
Gavin told the task force that the program was awarded ARPA funds in May (approximately $899,000, she said) and that funding will not stretch to cover all applicants; staff estimates the allocation will allow assistance for roughly 60–65 homeowners. She described new administration and inspection teams and said the program has begun town site visits under the restructured process.
Why this matters: the program provides direct repairs and safety improvements to homeowners in historic and vulnerable neighborhoods; ARPA funding is finite so staff expect a limited number of completed projects in the near term.
