Sanilac County adopts $19.5 million general fund budget for 2025

The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners on Dec. 3 adopted the county's 2025 general fund budget of $19,500,000 following a brief public hearing that drew no speakers.
"It is that time of year where we are about to adopt our general fund budget for next year, all $19,500,000 of it," the chair said as the board opened the hearing and then moved to the formal vote. Finance Chair Bill Sarkella moved the budget resolution; Commissioner Christine Lee supported the motion and the board adopted the resolution by roll call.
The budget adoption concluded a packet of fiscal actions the board said had been vetted at the finance meeting two weeks earlier; the board also approved current claims and a series of amendments and appropriations that were listed in the meeting materials. The finance agenda included an accounts-payable payment of $297,459.77 dated Nov. 19, 2024, which the board approved in the same session.
Next steps: the board recorded adoption of the general and non-general fund appropriations for 2025 and will proceed under the new appropriations beginning Jan. 1, 2025. Any implementation or department-level changes will follow the usual administrative and personnel procedures.
