The Smyth County Board approved a string of committee recommendations presented by staff.
Building & Grounds recommended—and the Board approved—an easement for Mount Rogers Community Services to run a new powerline across county parking with the addition of dusk‑to‑dawn LED lighting on the new pole. The Board also approved a $27,550 Circuit Court office remodel to create a privacy/security enclosure around a court assistant’s desk.
The Solid Waste committee recommended acceptance of a VA Waste Management contract renewal extending the county’s current agreement for five years beginning Sept. 30, 2027 and expiring Sept. 30, 2032; staff recommended acceptance because Waste Management offered the lowest local disposal prices. The Solid Waste committee also recommended a Convenience Station Inclement Weather Policy to reduce confusion after the February 2025 ice storms.
These committee recommendations were presented by Assistant County Administrator Clegg Williams and adopted by the Board as committee recommendations; recorded votes list the four present supervisors voting aye.
