Charles Lawson, who identified himself as representing Lawsona Park, addressed the board during Citizens Time about a March 14 911 call that he says reported the Old Mill as "engulfed in flames," though photos he presented showed no visible fire.
"The call for service...said the mill is on fire, on fire and engulfed," Lawson said, and later added that the pictures he supplied show there was no fire. He asked to meet with the public safety committee to review the 911 call-for-service report and to clarify how the response occurred and whether county resources were dispatched in error.
Lawson also asked questions about cost and whether Smyth County pays Marion Fire Department for responses, and said he wanted procedures reviewed so a similar incident would not recur. County staff took note of his request and the clerk recorded it for committee follow-up.
