Kathi Roark, executive director of the Smyth County Children’s Advocacy Center, told the Board the center provided 495 investigative interviews for county children who had experienced physical abuse, sexual abuse or online exploitation.
Following the presentation, the Board considered and adopted a resolution proclaiming April as Child Abuse Awareness Month in Smyth County and urging citizens and partner organizations to work together on prevention and victim support. The resolution text cited statewide statistics and affirmed the role of multi‑agency partnerships in prevention and response.
Chair Pro‑Tem Rick Billings entertained a motion to accept the resolution; Rye Valley District Supervisor Jason Parris moved to adopt and Saltville District Supervisor Roscoe Call seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
