Winery’s 10th-annual Cork Festival, including fireworks, approved by Preble County BZA

The Preble County Board of Zoning Appeals on March 24 approved a two-year Temporary Use Permit for the Olde Schoolhouse Vineyard & Winery’s 10th-annual "Preble County Cork Festival," scheduled for June 12–13, 2026.
Mark Zdobinsky, representing Olde Schoolhouse Vineyard & Winery, described the event as a larger, family-oriented festival this year with bounce houses, vendors, food trucks and a fireworks show handled by Scarrette Pyrotechnics of Richmond, Indiana. "This is our 10th anniversary, so this is a big one for us," Zdobinsky said, noting the organizers will hire the Preble County Sheriff’s Department for traffic control and have calculated required safety distances for the fireworks.
Zoning Director Brad Kramer confirmed the festival’s parking and safety plans and said organizers would contract with deputies for traffic control. Board member Sarah Driver moved to approve Case 5743 under Section 816.03, Letter O, for two years; Curtis Caplinger seconded. The roll-call vote was unanimous in favor.
The board noted there were no complaints on file from previous years. The approval permits the event with the elements described by the applicant; any changes in scale, location or safety plans could require further review or conditions. The board’s action allows the organizers to proceed with vendor and safety planning and to coordinate required onsite controls with the sheriff’s office and the building/zoning office.
