Chairman Charlie Atkins was re-elected at the Smyth County Board of Supervisors'organizational meeting Jan. 8, after a nomination from a fellow board member and a voice vote that carried. The board then moved through routine officer appointments, including selecting a vice chairman and nominating Sean to serve as clerk.
Board members said the slate was largely uncontested and praised staff support for the coming year. Atkins thanked the board for its support and said he looked forward to another year of collaboration: "I hope as we go into this new year, we'll all have a happy and a good year," he said. The clerk appointment and officer slate were approved by voice votes with no recorded roll-call tally in the transcript.
