Rusty and Caitlin Palmer asked the commission for time to pay past-due taxes on parcel R0091939 / O60420031, saying they moved to Box Elder County five years ago and had been relying on construction proceeds from a spec home to catch up. Caitlin Palmer said, "I'm not asking to have any fees waived or any interest waived," and requested a payment schedule; county staff told the commission the total owing is $8,983 (tax $7,486; penalty $187.15; interest about $1,003.79) and that the parcel was slated for tax sale in May.
Commissioners discussed previous county contracts used for payment plans and noted mixed results. To avoid an immediate tax sale, Commissioner Bingham moved that the county attorney prepare a payment agreement for the Palmers and remove the parcel from the upcoming tax sale; Commissioner Perry seconded and the motion passed. The county attorney's office will draft the contract and staff will follow up with the Palmers.
