County approves CWPP participation commitment; officials cite new equipment and fuel breaks

Box Elder County approved participation in the Cooperative Wildfire Protection Plan (Agreement 26-21). Fire Department representative Kevin Lloyd said the commitment will fund fuel breaks, new brush trucks and water trucks and enable additional wardens in the area.
The commission approved Agreement 26-21, the county’s participation commitment for the Cooperative Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP). Kevin Lloyd, identified as a mechanic and fire marshal, described the projects and equipment the participation will fund, including fuel breaks, brush trucks and water trucks.
Lloyd said the state’s participation will allow construction of fuel breaks and procurement of new firefighting equipment: “This is the participation amount participation commitment from with the state, for our the CWPP,” he said, noting that two of the county’s wardens will be assigned to the area and that the county expects improved local response capacity. Commissioner Perry moved approval; Commissioner Bingham seconded and the motion passed with an aye vote.
Commissioners thanked staff for preparing the plan and noted that a signed copy of the CWPP will be sent to the state following adoption of the agreement.
