Azusa High wins NAF distinctions; CDE honors school for dual enrollment

Superintendent Arturo Ortega announced that Azusa High School's Academy of Computer Science earned NAF Distinguished Academy status, joining the school's Health Sciences and Engineering academies. "Azusa High School is now 1 of only 3 high schools in California and among only 12 schools nationwide to host 3 or more NAF Distinguished Academies," Ortega said.
Ortega also said the California Department of Education selected Azusa High to receive the Exemplary Dual Enrollment Award, highlighting the school's success enabling students to graduate with both a high school diploma and college credits. He noted dual-enrollment participation was substantial: "This year, we had over 1,500 enrollments in college courses," and emphasized potential cost savings for students who can earn up to an associate degree at no cost.
District officials said dual-enrollment opportunities aim to promote college readiness and reduce postsecondary costs for participating students. Ortega framed the recognitions as evidence of the district's focus on career readiness and student pathways to college and careers.
