Town told Act 181 housing targets will affect land-use mapping and town plan

Robert Simms brought forward feedback on the town's land-use maps and explained the relationship between the Town Zoning Map and regional planning documents. He said NVDA statutes indicate the Land Use Map does not override the Town Zoning Map and that the regional planning map is a separate product.
Simms warned that Act 181 "may affect us, basically states the housing targets for 2030 which the town of Sutton are supposed to build 10 new dwellings in the next 10 years." He said the state is encouraging towns to consider changes to zoning and town plans so developers have incentives to build; Sutton will need to update its Town Plan to satisfy state expectations while deciding how to label aspirational goals and zoning designations.
