Board authorizes hydro-jetting after contractor finds sewer line blocked with grease

When a contractor attempted to scope the sewer main from the south side of Hwy 35, the camera could not proceed because the line was full of grease. Leitzinger said he observed grease being dumped behind the gas station and suspects that is the source.
He outlined costs: hydro-jetting at $0.75/ft with a 1,000-foot minimum, travel at roughly $3 per mile (about $312 round trip) and camera inspection at $1/ft with a 1,000-foot minimum; the total estimated cost was about $2,000 plus mileage. The board approved hydro-jetting and inspection to clear and properly assess the line. Leitzinger also said the village issued 30-day notices to all food-service businesses to install grease traps, per village ordinance.
The board voted unanimously to proceed with the work; implementation will include charging the contractor and documenting findings to determine responsibility for grease discharges.
