Bloomington to install permanent speed sign on Mill Street after study

A police speed study found most northbound traffic complied with the 25 mph limit but higher speeds were recorded southbound and at the north location; the board approved installing a permanent speed sign on Mill Street coming into Bloomington from Fair Grounds Road.
Chief Small presented results of a Mill Street speed study showing mixed compliance.
"For the Mill Street South location, northbound traffic was mostly compliant with the speed limit, with over 2,600 of the 3,026 vehicles traveling at or below 25 mph," Chief Small reported, while southbound traffic showed more vehicles in the 26-35 mph range. At the north location, many northbound vehicles were in the 26-30 mph (644 vehicles) and 31-35 mph (332 vehicles) ranges. Chief Small recommended a permanent speed sign on the north end coming into Bloomington from Fair Grounds Road to help slow traffic. The board approved the permanent installation to replace the portable trailer currently used.
Motion to install the sign passed unanimously.
