The Village of Bloomington Board voted unanimously Sept. 2 to reestablish the Bloomington Police Department and appoint Officer Small as police chief, according to the minutes. Trustee Scott Daentl moved the motion, and Trustee Chasity Allen seconded; the motion carried with all members present in favor.
President Robert McLimans said the change would allow Officer Small to use the village vehicle rather than his county cruiser, reducing liability and giving him more flexibility to enforce village ordinances. McLimans said the board would follow the village ordinance for appointing a chief and that the chief would take the statutory oath of office. The board indicated the pay rate for the position would remain the same for now and could be revisited in next year’s budget.
