Board urged to seek bids for UV system after 'straight A’s' on wastewater and consumer confidence reports

Larry Gates reviewed the village's 2024 Compliance Maintenance Annual Report (CMAR) for wastewater and the 2024 Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) for drinking water, telling the board the village received "straight A’s on these reports." Gates recommended the village begin soliciting bids for a UV disinfection system to replace chlorination, noting that "the cost for one in 2023 was around $60,000 and now, the current costs is around $120,000." He said a UV system would eventually eliminate recurring 'wet tests' required under chlorination and better align with Department of Natural Resources expectations.

Gates also explained that a recent water-quality episode involved e. coli attributed to dirt rather than a fecal-source violation; after chlorination and follow-up testing the water returned to normal and there were no violations. He reported the water-tower inspection had one outstanding administrative requirement — late lead service-line reports — which he said have since been completed and will be filed with the state.
