Sperry applies for up to $50,000 DEQ cleanup grant and sets town clean-up for Sept. 19, 2026

On Jan. 8 the Board of Trustees voted to approve an application for a Department of Environmental Quality grant for up to $50,000 to fund clean-up days and demolition of dilapidated buildings in Sperry. The grant application was presented as a Police Department item listed with Chief Nick Mahoney.
The board also approved amending the date to schedule a free town clean-up day on Sept. 19, 2026. Chief Mahoney estimated the event's related cost at approximately $4,200 and said the town would like to hire a crew and include hazardous-waste disposal. The board directed that expenses come from the Community Enhancement account or possibly from the DEQ grant if awarded.
