At the Oct. 9 meeting of the Sperry Board of Trustees, resident Loren Turner asked the board to enforce town code against a neighboring property, saying the Indian Nations Council of Governments lists the parcel as residential and that "the overgrowth on the property to the south and west of her home has been up to 8 feet tall." Turner also told trustees she believes she has been "punished and harassed by the property owner."
Bill Downs told the board the property met the town code's definition of a nuisance and cited several code references. Town Attorney Jeff Stephens reported that the land records he located show the property is zoned agricultural. The minutes record that no formal enforcement action was taken at the meeting; the item had been tabled on Sept. 11 to allow the attorney extra time to locate records. The board did not adopt a compliance order or set a follow-up deadline during the Oct. 9 session.
