Lucy T. Joyce, Executive Director of Cornell Cooperative Extension in Orange County, told the Education and Economic Development Committee on March 23 that she will retire effective Friday, March 27, 2026, and that Maire Ullrich is assuming the role immediately.
Joyce, who said she has been with Cornell Cooperative Extension for 33 years, described the Extension's relationship with Orange County as positive and thanked the Legislature and County Executive for consistent financial and policy support. "Their relationship with Orange County in every way has been very positive," Joyce said while providing the committee with an update; the written materials are on file with the Clerk of the Legislature.
The committee considered the update after Ms. Scott moved the item for discussion; the record shows the committee then voted on a procedural motion with the notation "Motion carried. All in favor." No formal county appropriation or separate action on the personnel change was recorded in the committee minutes at this session.
The change in leadership was presented as an operational transition. Maire Ullrich, previously described in committee records as an Agricultural Program Leader with Cornell Cooperative Extension, will serve as Executive Director going forward, and the committee received the Extension's program materials and description of ongoing county partnerships.
