Director of Public Works Keith Leitzinger told the committee that a fellow operator had refused to obtain required Department of Natural Resources (DNR) certification, which the operator was expected to obtain as a condition of employment when hired three years ago. Leitzinger said only certified individuals may legally enter data into DNR systems and that the village could face fines for noncompliance if certified coverage is insufficient.
Leitzinger noted that he holds water certification and is studying for wastewater certification, but expressed concern the village is vulnerable if he is unavailable and the other operator remains uncertified. The committee agreed to consult the village attorney about certification requirements for the Director of Public Works assistant before taking further action.
