Chair Commissioner Brooks opened the meeting and said the move would "enable emergency management and community departments to purchase necessary supplies, equipment, and materials to address the fires without going through the normal applicable processes."
The board's action was procedural but immediate: commissioners traded brief remarks of sympathy for affected residents and gratitude for first responders before the vote. The declaration also authorizes virtual approval procedures for signatures because the meeting was held remotely.
