Eric Hoiland, Anaconda-Deer Lodge County chief financial officer, asked the Commission to set a public hearing for the fiscal year 2026–2027 budget and described a schedule of related approval dates.
Hoiland told the Commission "the date that I have set aside is August 25, 2026, for a public hearing," and listed additional steps: he said the county would "approve it on August 4, 2026," schedule further budget approval on September 8, 2026, and adopt a resolution on September 15, 2026. Hoiland noted the timeline keeps the county clear of the Oct. 1, 2026 deadline for budget adoption and allows time to make adjustments if needed.
The exchange in the work session did not record a formal motion or vote on setting the hearing date; Chairman Kevin Hart opened the floor for public comment and none was offered. The Commission packet lists the proposed public hearing date as August 25, 2026; commissioners signaled they would consider the item at the next meeting where a vote could be taken.
The Commission will need to reconcile the sequence Hoiland described and confirm dates at the posted meeting where the formal public hearing and any budget resolutions are docketed.
