RSD 17 board sends $51,348,789 education budget to July 8 referendum

Shawna Goldfarb, acting as Board Secretary for the reading, read the Legal Call into the record, including the budget amount: "To adopt a regional education gross budget of $51,348,789 for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025." Moderator Joanne Nesti moved to adopt the budget and Howard Burr seconded the motion; Nesti stated that no vote would be taken at the meeting and that the formal vote would occur at the polling places the next day.
The Legal Call noted that a copy of the proposed budget is on file and available for inspection at the Superintendent's office at 57 Little City Road, Higganum, CT, on the district website and at the Haddam and Killingworth town clerks' offices. The board recorded that the referendum vote would be conducted on voting machines in each member town on July 8, 2025.
The board took no floor vote on the budget during the meeting; the next procedural step is the referendum vote at the member towns' polling places on July 8, with results to determine whether the budget is adopted.
