County authorized to negotiate four‑month prosecution contract with Mountain Lake

County Attorney Deja Weber told commissioners that the private attorney who contracted with the City of Mountain Lake had terminated that agreement and the city had asked whether Cottonwood County's Attorney's Office could provide prosecution services. The board unanimously authorized Weber to negotiate a four‑month contract, covering September through December 2024, with the City of Mountain Lake; the contract will be re‑evaluated at the end of the year for possible continuation.
Commissioner Tom Appel made the motion and Commissioner Donna Gravley seconded it. The board's authorization allows staff to negotiate contract terms; any signed agreement will be brought back to the board per county contracting practice.
