Residents urge action on Lake 8 flooding after standing water damages homes

Rich Batterberry, a resident and NVR of Oak Run, told the River Ridge Community Development District Board that work done at Seaside had been well received and urged the board to apply similar fixes around Lake 8. "Residents are asking the Board to consider something similar to their neighborhood, as it takes a long time for the rainwater that pools from the monument to halfway down Lake 8 to recede," Batterberry said, and noted one homeowner had incurred significant costs to mitigate water coming up through a floor.
District Engineer Charlie Krebs told the board the Seaside area had never been regraded and that completing similar regrading work could address the issues observed at Lake 8. Chair Bob Schultz said the matter would be considered during the Fiscal Year 2025/2026 budget process. Eric Long listed the Lake 8 stormwater management project among forecasted items for the board's multi-year plan.
The discussion identified homeowners' concerns about standing water and potential foundation impacts; the board did not take immediate action but directed staff to include the project in budget planning and cost estimates. Staff will return with cost options and a recommended scope for possible regrading and stormwater improvements.
