Operations director warns FY26 operations budget at about 70% spent; staff expect depletion by March

Miguel Gautier, Jr., Executive Director of District Operations, told the committee that "Approximately 70% of the budget has been used through December 31." He added that he believed the department "will run out of money, it is only a matter of when," and that his expectation was that money would be depleted by March.
Aaron Ide, listed as a community member, asked what the district could do if funds ran out. Gautier said some vacancies might free funds "that funds can potentially be pulled from, but ultimately they still need to continue to run the buildings. He clarified that no cosmetic repairs are being completed. Only items that are related to safety are being completed." Gautier also noted the recent unexpected cost impacts including the Nathan Hale public address issue. Separately, Gautier reported a post-storm incident in which a city plow struck a safety bollard in front of Winthrop and, after snow melt, the bollard rolled into and hit an unoccupied car; Gautier said the vehicle owner and the city are in contact and the city's insurance will be involved regarding the vehicle claim.
