The council approved an amendment to the city's hillside ridgeline map for a parcel at 785 West Cervonti Drive, allowing the property owner to build an accessory dwelling unit and pool house with a revised setback classification. Planner Wes explained the difference between Cuesta and plateau ridgeline designations and said the hillside committee unanimously supported the applicant's reclassification after an onsite review; the planning commission previously recommended approval by a 5–2 vote.
Councilmembers discussed the intent of the mapped setbacks and how the ridgeline would be measured in the field. One councilmember said the property owner had taken steps to reduce the visual impact of the addition through color choices and roof-line design. Councilmember Danielle Larkin moved the ordinance to change the West ridgeline designation from a Cuesta to a ridgeline, and the motion passed unanimously. "Make a motion that we approve the hillside permit to change the West ridgeline on this parcel from a Cuesta ridgeline as shown in the city's ridgeline map to a ridgeline," she said during the session.
