St. George staff present $540.2M proposed FY27 budget; no property tax increase proposed

City staff delivered the first of two public hearings on the fiscal year 2026–27 budget, laying out a proposed combined budget across more than 40 funds totaling $540,200,000 and capital investments of roughly $178,000,000. Staff said the proposal does not include a property tax increase and highlighted that public safety would represent the largest share of the general fund at about 47%.
Robert, the staff presenter, said the proposal also anticipates continued investment in transportation and utility infrastructure, parks projects tied to the 2023 voter-approved general obligation bond, and upgrades to police and fire facilities. He noted about $160,000,000 of the proposed budget would fund regional services that serve Washington County. "The fiscal year 27 combined budget across all 40 plus funds is $540,200,000," Robert said during the presentation.
The council opened the public hearing for resident comments and scheduled a second public hearing on June 18; staff indicated the council may consider adoption immediately following that second hearing. Residents offered comments on related topics including animal-shelter plans and golf-course finances during the hearing.
