Cicero SD 99 board keeps current attendance boundaries for 2026-27, sets December deadline for redraw

The Cicero School District 99 Board of Education on June 10 voted to adopt Option 1 of the revised attendance map for the 2026-2027 school year, while directing staff to complete a fuller plan by December 2026 and to include the Cicero Police Department in traffic discussions for 2027-28.
Dr. Mary Mycyk, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, presented a fourth proposal and recommended maintaining the existing attendance boundaries "that have been in place since the closure of Burnham Elementary School" for one additional year to allow a comprehensive review of enrollment and programming impacts. She told the board the additional year would provide more data to balance operational needs with community stability.
President Tomschin said the additional year should come with a firm planning timeline and explicit attention to before- and after-school traffic patterns around schools such as Wilson. He noted there is currently no district-provided transportation for students attending Wilson, and urged planning that considers students who walk along high-traffic streets. Secretary Manouzi asked whether projected class sizes would remain within targets; Dr. Mycyk said some classes at Goodwin and Sherlock could reach or exceed 30 students without added hires.
The motion to approve Option 1, with the recommendations noted by President Tomschin, passed by roll call with President Tomschin, Vice-President Dominick, Secretary Manouzi, Members Couch, Moreno and Barrera voting yea; Member Terracino was absent. The board directed administration to complete planning for alternatives for the 2027-2028 school year and to present a timeline at or before the December 2026 meeting.
