"At the beginning of this year, when I re-upped the emergency declaration for the state for unsheltered homelessness ... I was able to go find $10,000,000 to put into this project so we could be here today," she said, describing the funding as essential to moving the campus forward.
Kotek placed the project in a broader statewide context, saying her administration has added about 1,600 new treatment beds across Oregon either open now or to be opened within a year. She emphasized that co-located services and transitional housing on the campus will make it easier for people seeking help to remain in care.
Kotek praised local leaders and county commissioners for pushing the project and said the campus could serve as a model for the state when services, housing and supports are provided together.
