Superintendent says district uncovered county tax overpayment, FOIA requests pending

During Jan. 21 board discussion Superintendent Steve Ptacek summarized feedback following the district levy and noted interactions with a county commissioner over a discovered excess property-tax payment. Ptacek said the district located the error, the overpayment has been repaid to taxpayers and that the district has received a Freedom of Information Act request for emails between the district and the county commissioner.
"He showed them how the over payment has been paid back to the tax payers. He also said the school district has been FOIA'd for all emails between the district and the Commissioner," the minutes state. Ptacek told trustees that documentation will show how the district discovered the county error and the steps taken to correct it. The board did not take additional action on the matter during open session.
