Superintendent and principals report on awards, safety training and operations

Superintendent Jennifer Durbin and building principals provided multiple routine updates to the board on March 19.
Durbin said Coach Scott Francis was nominated for Illinois Coaches Hall of Fame Coach of the Year and will be recognized May 2. She reported a committee of teachers, instructional coaches and principals had selected social studies curriculum for grades 5-12. The district plans to trade a van that has been repeatedly in the shop, and final work on roof vents and drains in the ag shop is scheduled for spring break.
High School Principal Annie Baugher highlighted students of the month and described a reunification training in February that involved staff and 45 students. Middle School Principal Kyra Fancher noted IAR testing is underway and an 8th-grade transition day is set to help students prepare for high school. Grade School Principal Cassy Carey reported the grade school raised over $2,800 for the Kids Heart Challenge and that Pre-K staff received positive feedback from Early Intervention coordinators. Special Education Director Lori Avart said five students participated in the final preschool screening and the district continues to recruit special education teachers to fill vacancies.
