Board member Willie Merrill told the board that grades 3 through 8 completed the Illinois Assessment of Readiness in English language arts and mathematics in March, and that Komarek's 5th- and 8th-grade students were taking the Illinois Science Assessment during the week of the meeting, with makeups scheduled through April. Merrill thanked staff and families for their support during statewide assessments.
Merrill also reported that April 10 had been a teacher institute day focused on professional development in small-group instruction and "understanding how to use artificial intelligence to support student learning," topics he said align with the district Strategic Plan. The administration plans to expand AI training into student-facing instruction next year and is working with regional partners and staff to develop related curriculum and training.
