Superintendent Steve Ptacek recommended at the Feb. 18 meeting that the district adopt a districtwide cell-phone and personal-technology ban, saying Jacksonville Middle School's experience has been positive and that the proposed policy should include 504 accommodations.
Ptacek told the board he has seen positive responses online and relatively few negative reactions to the middle school's approach. He asked the Policy Committee to draft formal policy language and present it to the full board at the March meeting; the committee will address 504 considerations and operational details such as enforcement and exemptions for instructional use.
