During the public comment portion of the Dec. 17 hearing, the board received a letter submitted by Jason Haynes that was entered into the record. The record indicates the board secretary presented the letter during the public comment period; the contents of the letter were not read into the minutes on the transcript.
Barbie Davidsmeyer, Special Services Director, addressed the board during public comment and said she had discussed the levy with Superintendent Ptacek and understood why the district requested the increase. Davidsmeyer expressed personal and community frustration with the continued increases in property taxes and urged the district to pursue legislative change, including approaching the state legislature to consider amending PTELL to allow mechanisms such as rebates when surpluses occur. Davidsmeyer told the board she believes the underlying problem lies in Springfield.
No formal board action was recorded in response to the public comments during the hearing; the comments were entered into the record and the hearing adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
