Superintendent Ryan Swan told the board June 15 that the district’s Summer Feeding Program has expanded substantially since it began in 2023. The minutes state the program averaged 3,000 students served per week last year and is now averaging 4,800 per week, with 5,600 students signed up from various Southern Illinois counties. Each box distributed contains seven meals and a gallon of milk; last week a watermelon and a loaf of bread were added to the boxes.
Swan also reported the State owed the district $100,415.00 as of May 31, 2026. The board acknowledged an award presented to Sarah Kluck and her staff by the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce for their work on the feeding program.
