Mendota Township High School District 280 approved a slate of personnel actions at the April 20 meeting that will affect staffing across departments for the coming school year.
Actions approved included hiring Jocelyn Luna as a bilingual paraprofessional, Celiflora Arteaga as a cafeteria worker, Veronica Becker as Social Studies Department Chair (effective 2026-27), and Joe Hughes as Science Department Chair (effective 2026-27). The board renewed Nicole Cromwell as assistant principal for 2026-2027. The board also accepted the retirement request of teacher Gary Barrera effective at the conclusion of the 2028-2029 school year and accepted resignations including Jason Artman (Social Studies Department Chair, effective at the end of the 2025-2026 school year), Rey Arteaga (Assistant Boys Soccer Coach, effective immediately), Katrina Flahive (Football Cheerleading Coach, effective at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year) and Sydney Wright (Basketball Cheerleading Coach, effective at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year). Coaches and volunteer coaches for Fall and Winter 2026-2027 were approved pending proper paperwork.
On compensation, the board granted non-certified personnel raises of 4% for 2026-2027 and 3.5% for 2027-2028 per the list provided, and approved two paid holidays for district paraprofessionals (Labor Day and Columbus Day) effective 2026-2027. Motions for these personnel items were made and seconded by board members and passed by recorded roll call.
