Illini Central board approves 2025 tax levy after brief public hearing

The Board of Education for Illini Central CUSD 189 approved a 2025 Tax Levy Resolution at its Dec. 18, 2025 meeting after a brief hearing. President Brian Hughes called the Tax Levy Hearing to order at 6:30 p.m., and Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Durbin presented the district's tax-levy materials, explaining an increase in equalized assessed value and an estimated tax rate of 4.79 percent.
Trustee Kent Renken moved to approve the resolution, and Secretary Amilee Bradshaw seconded. The motion passed on a roll-call vote with all seven trustees voting aye (Bradshaw, Hughes, Hull, Lemme, Renken, Robertson and Boyd). No members of the public spoke during the hearing. The resolution covers taxes payable in fiscal year 2027 and was introduced as part of routine year-end budget actions; the board did not alter the levy amount during the meeting.
The approval follows the superintendent's report that the district's projected EAV has increased, which Dr. Durbin said is the primary driver of the adjusted rate estimate. The board recorded the vote and proceeded to other agenda items; the next regular meeting is scheduled for Jan. 15, 2026.
