The North Shore SD 112 Board of Education voted 7–0 to approve Play Illinois’s proposal for an inclusive playground at Oak Terrace Elementary School, authorizing $499,519.65 for the project’s first phase.
Margaret Chaidez of Play Illinois presented an updated design informed by student feedback and described the first-phase scope as incorporating "additional play features (43 total)" and a poured rubber surface; the second phase, planned for summer 2027, will address blacktop improvements including half-court basketball, swings, shaded areas, and relocation of the gaga pit.
Board members approved the scope and budget and directed staff to proceed with contract execution and summer installation. The project is intended to increase play accessibility and was developed with input from Oak Terrace and Red Oak students.
