District reports new student-services supports, five school psychologists hired

Dr. Colin described the district's work on social-emotional learning and mental-health supports, including the 2023 adoption of the Compass curriculum and a partnership with Cartwheel Cares to provide referrals for students and families. She said the district conducted targeted recruitment and "hired five school psychologists," and that every building now has a full‑time school psychologist and at least one full‑time social worker.
Board members asked about how the new staffing model and intervention blocks are coordinated with classroom instruction and with special-education programming. Dr. Colin said Student Services and Teaching & Learning collaborate to align interventions and that the district is monitoring outcomes to avoid over-restricting access for students who need services. The presentation also noted plans to expand family engagement and a new parent committee for 2026–27 to share strategies and resources with families of students receiving services.
The presentation ran through specific operational changes—staff hires, curriculum adoption and referrals partnerships—but did not include new budget approvals or formal board action.
