Rankin board indicates opposition to county school facilities sales tax after review

After a Kings Financial Consulting presentation, the board reached consensus that it was not in favor of placing a County School Facilities Sales Tax (CSFST) on the ballot and plans a formal vote next month.
The board reviewed a presentation from Kings Financial Consulting Inc. on the County School Facilities Sales Tax (CSFST) during the March 23 meeting. Dr. Matt Gordon explained that placement of the tax on the ballot requires school boards representing 51% of county student population to pass a resolution and discussed potential property tax abatement options if the CSFST passes.
After discussion the minutes state "the consensus of the BOE was that it should take a position on this matter at the next BOE meeting. The BOE also determined that they were not in favor of the CSFST." The board plans to take a formal vote on the issue at the next meeting.
