Pekin CSD 303 policy committee recommends updated policies for First Read on May 19

The Pekin Community High School Policy Committee met in the Superintendent’s Office at the Holman Center for Career and Technical Education on April 27, 2026. Chairperson Manda Brown called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.; the committee reviewed a bundle of governance, operational, personnel, instruction, student and community relations policies and adjourned at 6:00 p.m.

After reviewing the listed policies, the committee recommended that the updated policies be forwarded to the Board for a First Read at the May 19, 2026 Board of Education meeting. Committee members in attendance included Chairperson Manda Brown and board members Terry Fischer and Corry Harris; Superintendent Dr. Danielle Owens and Chief Financial Officer Carla Schaefer attended as administrators, and Recording Secretary Trudy Dodson recorded the minutes. Two additional board members, Steve Huey and Joe Alesandrini, were present; Assistant Superintendent Coussens-Martin was absent.

The packet reviewed by the committee contained governance policies (Section 2), operational services updates including a child safety policy (Section 4), several personnel policies (Section 5), instructional policies including Title I and social-emotional development (Section 6), an extracurricular athletics policy (Section 7), and community relations guidance for parent organizations (Section 8). The committee characterized most edits as compliance- or statute-driven or as improvements for clarity and best practice. The next procedural step is presentation of the updated language to the full Board on May 19, 2026, for a First Read.
